29 May, from the crew dude, part 2

Hi all!

The local rain radar showed that something was coming along - a bit more drizzle, or something.  What we got was the wettest day since we arrived.  Not sure how much rain, but probably about 5 mm total.  I thought the weather was supposed to be improving a bit…???!!!

So we ended up installing Eric's preferred flight instrumentation in the glider.  Adam Woolley arrived, good to see him again, and fortunately for us he had a stock of RJ11 connectors, just what we wanted!

Eric then wired up a cable to an RJ45 connector, which his instrumentation needs, and took a great deal of care to make sure the right wires from it went to the right places in the RJ11 connector, and crimped everything in place.  It worked first time, so now he has fully operational instrumentation in the glider.  We had to remove the turn-and-bank indicator, as these aren't allowed in competitions (cloud-flying including by use of suitable instruments prohibited) which gave us space to install the mount for the tablet.

We now have to install the bug-wipers, which are motorised. We found suitable places to mount the motors, now we have to make up brackets to secure them in place.  We reckon that's a job for tomorrow!

As for when we - specifically Eric! - can get to fly, that's anyone's guess.  Yesterday, the forecast top for Sunday was 20 degrees; that's since been downgraded to 16.  Tomorrow's weather (Friday) is supposed to be very little rain, and top of 14, and Saturday is a bit more rain.

Will any flying at all happen?  Your guess is as good as mine.  Stay tuned!

Cheers
